I don't think he has been as strong since The Butcher Boy and The Dead School, but I keep reading him because no one else writes like this!

Yeah, I've had this with McCabe as well. I don't think I have ever seen him in the same light again since I met him at the Clarence ;-]

Nah, seriously, The Butcher Boy and the Dead School both had that melancholic creepiness over it. Something a little disturbed about the whole thing. Breakfast on Pluto I couldn't really get into. The story just wouldn't become clear to me. I didn't even know he had this novel out, that's how out of touch I am these days. No idea what to expect, but I suspect I'll end up buying McCabe books no matter what.

I sort of enjoyed The Dead School, but haven't been able to finish any of his books since. Not my cup of tea, I guess. And meeting him certainly didn't help.
