Everyone who actually knows me a little probably knows I'm really into my animals, especially horses and dogs. Now I've had my horse Solon for almost 5 years now, which is pretty cool. I have been pining for a dog though and would really love to have one. Given that I work a minimum of 40 hours a week, it wouldn't really be fair though. So while I still would love my very own doggie one day, I have settled on something else: a cat. I have been investigating and chances are I will find myself with a roommate (or two!) fairly soon. The general idea is to get one (or two!) from the pound, and probably one that's a little older already, but likes to cuddle up. I have been looking at some of the websites and for some reason most of them seem to be black or dark tiger, which I don't really like. Ideally, I'd have an orange one, but I suspect that if I go to the pound, I'll come home with any old mutt. Like it matters, really :-D

On an entirely different note. I took Thursday off, so was a little miffed that after I had just curled up in bed to go to sleep I got called by someone from work to inform me one of our branches had lost connectivity altogether. Grrr. Turned out there wasn't a lot I could do about it, but wait for our supplier to fix it, but it was well after 2 am before it got fixed. This more or less ruined the big plans I had for Thursday. The idea was to get a grip on the house, but it didn't really work out very well. It looks slightly more organised now, but there's still a lot of junk to trash and get rid off.

Somewhere in the afternoon, I kicked back and watched the new and kind of made a doubletake when an ex-boyfriend appeared in it. He was the first one, and I suspect my mother always viewed him as the perfect son in law. I'm not sure that's entirely true, but I've kept her in that illusion :) It's brought back memories though, and suddenly I feel older. Strange... I've never had that. I also noticed there'll be a reunion of my old school soon. I'm quite curious how that will go.

Rumours abound for 2007! Bowie might play Oxegen, T in the Park and/or Werchter. Then there's the U2 rumors. Sounds exciting. Exciting and expensive. Let's hope none of it is true :D

The Killers

The Killers seem to have made When You Rock And Roll With Me a fixed part of their set now. Truth be told, the most memorable thing about the gig was the atrocious sound, which means it basically took me about half a minute before I realised Brandon had slipped into the Bowie song. It was reverb after reverb after reverb. Enough sound to fill a stadium, except the Paradiso is like a little ex-church club that only holds about 800 people. I think this was the worst the sound has ever been in there, even surpassing the quality of sound (or lack there of) of David's show at the Amsterdam Arena(-ena-ena-na-a).

However... this didn't seem to bother the audience at all, who just went completely nuts. It was awesome to see, and feel the entire crowd shifting, jumping and generally going insane. Band seemed high on the energy coming from the crowd, which fueled some action-reaction thing, where both started feeding of eachother. Great too watch.

For me, it was a revalation, as the only times I saw The Killers before they were playing support for U2 in huge arenas, which must be the most unthankful job on the planet. They kind of got lost in the sheer size of the stadium then, whereas today they were drowned by the audience, who sang every song word for word (which of course made the sound worse =) )

...asleep, I suppose, preparing for tomorrow's busy day. Put the horses out in the field, race back home, catch a bus to the airport, hang about at the airport (the worst part of flying), get to Dublin, check into room type place, hook up with the others, wander over to the Point... etc.

...but I'm not asleep. I'm not even fully packed yet, but maybe 85% there (toothbrush, camera, laptop, junk). Instead, I'm kicking back, drinking really sugary sweet tea an solving a last minute work problem. Got to love these 24/7/365 shifts. I'll need to remember to do the overtime paperwork when I get back... Wee, more time off in 2007. Like I didn't have about 2.5 weeks left out of 2006 already. I suppose that brings my total time off for 2007 on round and about 40 days. Yes, that's 8 weeks. What will I do with myself? Oh, right, go to some gigs... I suppose I'll manage that.

I wonder if this movie will be dubbed in Dutch. If it is I'm so taking my nephews to it for Christmas and expose them to their first bit of (evil) Bowie. I'd love to go a bit nuts with them and get them interested in music in general but their parents (my brother and his wife) are a bit fruity about some things, so I doubt they'd appreciate it. I don't think anyone is capable of living up to their standards Whatever. Never thought my bro would be so hard to deal with, but then I suppose we have kind of grown apart a lot lately. Our lives are just so different, so contradictionary.. Sometimes it's hard to imagine we're family. Except, of course, one of the twins is the spitting image of me as a child, so I suppose there's some genetics going on there. In a couple of months I'll have another niece or nephew... Weird that, from going to the smallest family on the planet to a fairly big one.

Positively rambling now, kind of mellow. Very neat... I need to sleep.

not a crime

 Mister Bowie did not seem to take well to having his choice of music (Arcade Fire, Deerhoof, TV on the Radio) called "boring" by someone on the boards. He was challenged with Gogol Bordello, Bedouin Soundclash and Jim Noir.

I'd been listening to Gogol Bordello before and I do agree that they are unusual and different. I suppose you do kind of have to like them, or have a feel for them, but then that kind of goes for all music, I suppose.

So which of the debatants won? Hard to say. I really do like Gogol Bordello, but I don't think Arcade Fire are boring or unoriginal either. Not so sure about the others... Kind of funny to see David being given a run for his money though. He'll just have to suck it up.

In other news, my doggie is eating again (being hand fed rice, chicken fillet and beef... Hell, I'd eat it!). Lots of relief all around... Hopefully she'll pick up a little in the next couple of days and we may enjoy her company a little while longer. My other dog loves it; she's emptying out both dinner bowls...

I suppose I should do that whole sleep thing. Pretty hard to imagine I'll be in Dublin again in about a week. Heh. I don't think I've ever been this disorganised before. Looking forward to the whole thing, and hanging out with the gang again (minus Sue, plus Sandra this time). Hopefully the Octagon bill won't be quite as bad as last time, but I imagine it will be. Fuck it.

And then there's Budapest in a couple of weeks too... man, I haven't even thought about that at all. That party is going to rock... :-] I should dig out the pics of previous years...
