Wow. What a great experience. Tonight's gig will go up high in my "Best of 2007" list. I've been wanting to see them forever, and finally had the chance tonight. I was a little worried about security after the hassle I got at the Melkweg at the Hard-Fi gig, but Gogol Bordello was super cool about it. In fact, there was a bit of an "anything goes" vibe going on. Stage diving, crowd surfing, pogoing... it all made it damn hard to keep my camera still.
But hey, I managed:
Oh, and that 50/1.4 lens gets significantly nicer when it has a wee bit more light, like was the case at the Melkweg tonight.
Damnit.
Arcade Fire plays Heineken Music Hall the very same day as Gogol Bordello plays Melkweg.
Where will I go? I'm leaning towards Gogol Bordello, because I've already seen Arcade Fire a couple of times, and I really don't like the Heineken Music Hall.
On top of that, my washing machine's broke. Suck.
Doggie is doing slightly better. I mean, in so far in that she's eating again. She's still not well though, dragging her little feet, but at least if she eats she'll grow a little stronger again. Well, hopefully anyway.
Was supposed to take my CCNA exam today, but it got postponed as they don't have enough space for me to actually do the exam. Truth be told, I'm glad it did, cause frankly, it'd be a 100% fail. Those 80% pass exams just suck. They're too hard :-/ Now it's up somewhere in November, so that buys me a little time.
Not much going on at the moment. Work's dragging along. Couple of meetings which bored the hell out of me and a few minorly challenging things to sort out. That and about half a zillion technical design drawings. Those drawings take forever to make. Somewhere along the way I am supposed to set up our new branch in Leeuwarden too, so I'll be spending some time there. To make a long story short, I'll hardly be in the office for most of October, which suits me fine.
Been listening to Gogol Bordello all day and Bonnie Prince Billy now. Drums on his latest album are played by Jim White, who's the Dirty Three drummer. He's got the most gentle, almost bluesy touch. That, and he's such a nice guy. Whenever he plays the drums, he reminds me of an octopus, arms waving around all over the place. That's after you get over the "scruffy pizza baker" look though. I think that's cute though. Haven't spoken to him for a while now, but he's sorted me out with tickets a couple of times where he didn't have to. I was kind of hoping maybe he'd be playing with Beth Orton in Dublin. Whatever the case, he's been very busy doing Wil Oldham's latest, as wel as New Buffalo's "The Last Beautiful Day" and Nina Nastasia's latest "On Leaving". He certaintly did the Came So Far For Beauty shows as well, as mentioned in this article, speaking of the upcoming shows in Dublin. Can't wait.
Note to self: Check out Last Harbour's latest, The Drones and Loene Carmen
Mister Bowie did not seem to take well to having his choice of music (Arcade Fire, Deerhoof, TV on the Radio) called "boring" by someone on the boards. He was challenged with Gogol Bordello, Bedouin Soundclash and Jim Noir.
I'd been listening to Gogol Bordello before and I do agree that they are unusual and different. I suppose you do kind of have to like them, or have a feel for them, but then that kind of goes for all music, I suppose.
So which of the debatants won? Hard to say. I really do like Gogol Bordello, but I don't think Arcade Fire are boring or unoriginal either. Not so sure about the others... Kind of funny to see David being given a run for his money though. He'll just have to suck it up.
In other news, my doggie is eating again (being hand fed rice, chicken fillet and beef... Hell, I'd eat it!). Lots of relief all around... Hopefully she'll pick up a little in the next couple of days and we may enjoy her company a little while longer. My other dog loves it; she's emptying out both dinner bowls...
I suppose I should do that whole sleep thing. Pretty hard to imagine I'll be in Dublin again in about a week. Heh. I don't think I've ever been this disorganised before. Looking forward to the whole thing, and hanging out with the gang again (minus Sue, plus Sandra this time). Hopefully the Octagon bill won't be quite as bad as last time, but I imagine it will be. Fuck it.
And then there's Budapest in a couple of weeks too... man, I haven't even thought about that at all. That party is going to rock... :-] I should dig out the pics of previous years...
