In honor of the upcoming Olympics, what could you win a gold medal in?
Submitted by TheFiercestCalm.
I'd win a medal at not being extraordinarily good at anything at all.
What is one of your addictions?
Submitted by Paperheart.
Travel and going to concerts. For some reason I never seem to be able to settle for going to just one concert, but when I like something, I'll go to as many as I possibly can. That's where the travel comes in.
I've always said it's a good thing I never got into smoking, alcohol or drugs, because I'd probably be a junkie or dead by now. I have a pretty addictive nature.
If you came with a warning label, what would it say?

Duh?
Did you dress up today? See any good costumes?
Hell yeah! Well, not strictly today, or on Halloween, but the Halloween party I attended was last Saturday at the Boscolo Hotel in Budapest. I just finished uploading the pictures, so I'll just shut up and talk in images :-)
These following pictures are just to give you an idea of what kind of venue we're talking about here:
For entertainment and decorations we had... Bellydancers a DJ and a couple of crowd. The middle bellydancer was a rabid cleaning lady! Don't you just love the SPAR handbag?
And on to the better costumes:
The period costumes always do well as well. I suspect there's a partyshop in Budapest that rents them out.
Her'es some that were (apparently) really easy to do, but still look absolutely stunning:
How many computers do you have in your house?
Submitted by Foomper.
Aw man... This is going to take a while...
1. Compaq Aero - I'm still determined to one day run some linux or BSD on this. It's about as obsolete as they get
2. Pentium 333 - One I took home from Ireland. It must be about 8 years
old by now. This was in use up to a year ago as my router/gateway
machine. Did a great job at it too. I still need to retrieve some data
off it. Unfortunately, this requires piecing it back together first
3 & 4. 2 HP Omnibook 4150 laptops, both ex work computers. One has
a knackered hinge that makes it look ugly. Only two out of 3 batteries
work and I don't think I have a cd drive for them. I do have a floppy
drive though. One runs XP, the other Windows 98. The XP one I fitted
with a wireless card and this is the one I drag all over Europe. It's
great for email, browsing and stowing in a backpack and doesn't seem to
mind some knocks. Downside is that it's too freaking heavy.
5. 1 HP Omnibook VT6200. Another ex work one. This is the most
frustrating one of the lot. It craps out on me half the time and the
keyboard and battery are funny. I suspect it's having memory problems.
I never use it. If I remember correctly it has a virus on it. Still
need to get some data of it.
7. Some multi processor thing I got from an ex colleague. I was going
to put this together for someone who really needed a computer, any
computer, who doesn't have much money. But they then went out and
bought themselves a brand new one, so I guess they didn't need this
one. It's been sitting in my bedroom for a while now.
7. 1 Black and grey thing I built myself that makes up my desktop PC.
It had a real slick case, until the door broke off. I need a flatscreen.
8. 1 HP nc8000. This is my current work laptop, which I use for just
about everything, day to day. It has the most impossible power suppy
though. It's design is slightly retro, but it's a little too thick and
weighty to be great. Not a bad laptop though.
9. One Sun Sparc U10 that I installed FreeBSD for Sparc up. It was
going to be my little home webserver/gateway thing, but I never really
put it to work.
10. One Sun NetraX1. Another of the above, just this one is 19" rack
mountable. You know, for the 19" rack I have set up in my wardrobe.
Goes unused. I'm not too keen on running these noisy machines day and
night, really.
So that makes a great total of 10 of which I use maybe 3 actively. Maybe it's time to clean up?
If you are going to dress up for Halloween, what will you be? Why?

I'm going to be a gargoyle!
I was inspired by a picture I saw on the net somewhere and decided to go for it. Why... Well, because the Halloween party my friend is throwing this year is going to be so utterly grand and splendid, I had to do something grand and splendid to fit in. The hotel it'll be held out is a 5 star very classic looking building, with guilded ceilings and a grand ballroom. I figured the gargoyle image would go great with the classic surroundings.
At the time I started out very enthusiastically, molding wings from chicken wire. They've been sitting in my living room for the past month, while I wasted time on other things. I'm planning to papier mache and spraypaint them this weekend though, as well as finding a way to attach them and cover the attachment. The idea is then to maybe where some fake furry vest to cover the shoulderstraps and paint the rest of my body completely grey with greasepaint. I may have to mold a bit of a body for myself, as I don't particularly fancy running around half naked :-}
Add a pair of latex horns and pointy ears and I'm rocking. Oh, I shouldn't forget to spraypaint my old Docs as well, as they'll be my footwear.
The difficult thing will be convincing customs that no, I'm really not trying to blow up the plane. :-)
Pets:
Loads. Fish and all that jazz when I was a kiddie. A tabby cat called Mickey and a Bassethound called Snoopy Cat was an absolute gem and was crazy about me. He'd pick me up at school at 3 and walk home with me. Sadly, he got an infection and died rather painfully when one of his organs got damaged, as a result of having been so skinny. Sadly enough, I was the one that found him. I must have been 10 or something.
Snoopy the bassethound was another gem. Big long dog, with very very long ears. My parents got him out of the pound when he was only 9 months. He'd already been through two homes. Not surprisingly since bassets are dogs with a big manual. Basically, when you get a basset, you adjust. This one couldn't stay home alone at all, and would dedicate his deep, baritone voice to letting everyone in the neighbourhood know he was unhappy. So he rarely ever was home alone, instead, he went everywhere with me, my brother and my mum in our Citroen 2CV.We almost lost him when he fell of some stairs and hurt his back (a common problem in dogs like these, with very long backs), but he battled through it. Moving from a flat to a "real" house when my mum and her boyfriend moved in together probably saved his life, because the stairs at the flat would have killed him. In the end, he lived until he was 14 and basically died of cancer which had grown throughout his head and body.
After that, my mum never wanted a dog again. 3 Months later we got a little black puppy called Sammie. Another 4 years later, she got joined by her half sister called Keetje. They are now 14 and 10, as mentioned before, and could not be more different in personality.
Then on to the horses... Cisco, my first pony, I bought/got when I was about 15/16 from a distant family member. He was only a yearling then. The little critter was not a bad pony at all, and I did have a lot of fun with him, but I was forced to sell him when I moved to Ireland in 97. Kind of an interesting name, considering I didn't start getting into the Cisco stuff (which makes up 95% of my job these days) until many years later.
When I moved back to the Netherlands after the Ireland episode, I fairly quickly bought my current horse, Solon. A little impulsive maybe, but I suppose I am slightly impulsive (only a little, mind, heh). I've had him for 5 years now, which means he has spent most of his life with me at this stage. He was only 2.5 when I bought him. I have backed him and brought him on myself, which wasn't always easy and I have the scars to prove it. While he's still a little git, we're so in tune with eachother it's almost scary.
Maybe in the near future I'm hoping to get a dog of my own, but I'll need to sort out dogsitting arrangements if I want to do so, since I work full time.
So that answers the "horse with no name" QotD too. His name is Solon :-]
Then the "Strike Up the Band" question.
No. I don't play any instrument and in fact, am about as a-musical as can be, much to my regret. I did try my hand at bass guitar once, but it never really materialised. In fact, I'm not even sure what happened to my bass guitar, or where it is. Ahem. I do love the sound of the bass though, probably my favourite instrument.
So for all the musical skills I don't have, I look at music all around me and make up for it by drinking in as much musical exposure as possible.
How many places have you lived in your life?
Hmmm..... Places as in cities, or different houses? I've been around quite a bit, really.
1976-1977 Stadionkade, Amsterdam. Not that I'd remember.
1977-1982 Elzekrulzoom, Alphen aan de Rijn. Moved out after my dad died.
1982-about 1988 Prunuslaan, Amstelveen. Just my mum, my bro and me.
about 1988 - 1994 Landlust, Amstelveen. My mum and her boyfriend bought this house together.
1995 - Deventer. Can't remember the address. One small room in a studenty place.
1995 - Deltalaan Deventer. Moved to a bigger student room.
1996 - 1997 Landlust, Amstelveen. Moved back in with the folks and started a different study/work.
1997 - 2001 York Road, Dun Laoghaire, Ireland. Wanted to move away and never come back
2001 - Landlust, Amstelveen. Came back. Lived with the folks for a bit.
2001 - 2005 Jonge Roelensteeg, Amsterdam. Great little apartment in the City Centre.
2005 - now Grote Beer, Amstelveen. Outgrew the city center place. Finally settled a little and bought my own place.
So as far as cities go: Amsterdam, Alphen aan de Rijn, Amstelveen, Deventer, Dublin.
Hoping to stay where I am for a while. I really loved the little apartment I bought and it's kind of nice to live close to just about everything.
What is your favorite children's movie?
Labyrinth, of course.
Duh.
